EFT for the Harsh Inner Critic

A compassionate tapping approach for moments when self-criticism becomes relentless or discouraging.

Self-criticism often tries to protect us from rejection, mistakes or disappointment, but its methods can be painful. Fighting the critical voice may make it louder.

Listen for the exact message

Write down one sentence the inner critic repeats. Tap while acknowledging its impact: “When I hear that I am not good enough, I feel this heaviness.”

You can also become curious about its intention: “Part of me believes criticism will keep me safe.” Curiosity is not approval. It creates enough distance to respond rather than automatically obey.

Add a fairer voice

When the intensity softens, introduce a balanced phrase such as “I can learn without attacking myself” or “one mistake does not define me.”

The aim is not instant confidence. It is a more respectful relationship with yourself.
