Using EFT for Anticipatory Anxiety

How to tap when your mind is rehearsing everything that could go wrong before an event.

Anticipatory anxiety often feels convincing because the mind presents imagined outcomes as if they are already happening. EFT can help you work with the emotional response in the present moment.

Name the feared moment

Choose one specific part of the upcoming event: walking into the room, beginning the conversation or waiting for a result. Specific scenes are easier to work with than “everything about tomorrow.”

Tap while saying what you fear may happen. Then notice the body response associated with that image. You might focus on a tight throat, racing heart or pressure behind the eyes.

Test the image again

After a few rounds, picture the scene once more. Has the intensity changed? Has a different concern appeared? Continue only while the process feels steady and tolerable.

EFT can support self-regulation, but persistent or severe anxiety deserves qualified professional care.
