Using EFT When Perfectionism Takes Over

How tapping can help with the fear, pressure and avoidance that often sit underneath perfectionism.

Perfectionism can look like high standards, but it is often driven by fear: fear of criticism, disappointment or being seen as inadequate. That fear can lead to delay and exhaustion.

Tap on the consequence you fear

Complete the sentence: “If this is not perfect, then…” Your answer may be “people will judge me,” “I will lose control,” or “it proves I am not capable.” Use the most emotionally charged consequence as your tapping phrase.

Aim for safe enough

After several rounds, try a balanced statement: “This can be careful and useful without being flawless.” Notice whether that feels believable. If not, use a smaller step such as “I am willing to consider completing a first draft.”

The aim is not to stop caring. It is to make action possible without constant self-threat.
