What Should You Say During EFT Tapping?

Practical examples of tapping phrases that acknowledge difficult feelings without forcing positivity.

Many beginners worry that they will use the wrong words during EFT. The most helpful phrases are usually simple, specific and emotionally honest.

Describe what is present

Try phrases such as “this knot in my stomach,” “this fear that I will get it wrong,” or “the pressure I feel when I think about work.” You are naming the experience, not agreeing that it will last forever.

Avoid forced positivity

You do not have to say that everything is wonderful. A bridging phrase can feel more believable: “I am open to feeling a little safer,” or “perhaps I can give myself some space around this.”

Let the words change

Your first phrase may lead to a different feeling or memory. Follow the change gently. EFT is a responsive process rather than a script that must be completed exactly.

When in doubt, use the words you would naturally use to describe the experience to someone kind and trustworthy.
