When Emotions Arrive After the Event
Why feelings sometimes appear only after a demanding situation has ended, and how EFT may help you process them gently.
During a difficult event, your attention may be focused on coping, helping others or completing what needs to be done. The emotional response can arrive later, once there is enough safety and space to feel it.
Delayed does not mean inappropriate
You may feel tearful, angry, shaky or exhausted hours or days afterwards. This does not necessarily mean you are going backwards. It may be your system beginning to process what it postponed.
Use EFT with the present experience rather than forcing yourself back into every detail. Try “this wave that has arrived now” or “my body finally letting me know how hard that was.”
Work in small pieces
Pause frequently and orient yourself to the room. If the material feels traumatic or destabilising, work with a suitably trained professional rather than trying to process it alone.
